What's the most desire preamp for MIDI tracking on PT with Control24?

    剛買的digidesign control 24的面板已經開始掉色了. 上面的focusrite 傳說中的platiem的preamp也明顯的不怎麼樣.

    1.
    請問這裡有control 24的使用者嗎?
    一般的MIDI過帶你們都用什麼preamp呢?

    2.
    在電視上看到五月天的studio跟林小培Avex的studio都也是用control 24. 他們錄Vocal跟MIDI過帶都是用哪些preamp來補足protools數位錄音的不足之處呢?

    3.
    台灣音樂市場上有哪一張專輯是"完完全全從頭到尾"在Protools上完成卻又保有相當的品質的呢?

    4.
    還有, Control24的手工真的是爛到可以. Pro Control的黑色coating掉了還可以變成銀色的底.
    Control24是連字都會掉, 最怕是連fader上的刻度也會掉光. 請問要如何預防呢?

    你好!建議你可以先把Control24轉讓掉,用Pro Control吧!因為它是一台過渡產品。
    另外PreAmp試試“737”。HHB 的 Fatman 也是價廉物美的一款。

    賣掉control24? 我才剛買, 應該是不會賣調的.
    因為經濟的問題, 所以才買control24的.

    VT737好用嗎? 其實VT737的價錢好像也是個物美價廉的東西, 不過卻是mono的.
    有人用過747嗎? tracking MIDI的時候聲音好嗎?

    Tracking MIDI的話不需要用VT吧! U5就夠了..
    之前幫8866配過8台。
    不過之前我提到TubeAmp的反應速度有點慢的問題(尤其是碰到舞曲),不知道有沒有朋友給點意見討論。

    其實Control 24上的前級應該沒有像你講的那麼差,有可能是你看到是Focusrite的大名而有太多預期。以Digidesign一貫的訂價政策來看,Control 24已經是破天荒的物廉價美了。

    如果只是錄MIDI的音源,用高階的 Direct Box就行了,要不然現在的音源常都有SPDIF或AES,你用數位線連接就行了,只是導線要好一些。

    #我倒是不知道 Control 24的做工那麼差,之前看過一次還覺得很豪華........

    小弟用主觀的經驗回應你的問題;

    #1 We do use control-24,but only for making Demo tracks,therefore,any Mic pre could do the jobs,but less care about the sound quality !!

    #2 as far as I concerned,both artists you nentioned,their albums involved with certain parts over-dub in big studios systems;林小培 even over-dub some vocals over a Forcusrite studio console(only 9 have been made in the world) in japan.I believe they do have a lots of choices from vintage outboards !!

    #3 Both Albums from 周竭倫,and the last album from 范小萱.

    #4 Don't buy it,or Don't use it !!

    apart from that,I suggest you try few twiks on API 500 series(not the 200 series,) Mic pre,I found they works better than SSL gain (but less cool than NEVE) while in Hard disk recording system !!

    about the #3 answer,I just knew they had their albums done completely in Protool systems,But I would not recommand the sound quality on both are O.K. !!as the matter of fact.......

    I guess API would be the choice if I'm getting a mic pre. What about for tracking MIDI sounds? in htis case, what's the preamp that you recommanded for tracking MIDI to PT via control24?

    Control 24上的preamp當然不會多好,想想Focusrite的中價位兩ch.的Preamp就大概超過Control 24的1/3價錢, 它上面做了一堆功能和10幾個Preamps當然不會水準多高,而且它也只是Focusrite設計的,Digidesign用的料一定更爛。

    Control 24的fader要小心使用,據說不小心推壞了要整台送回去修,很麻煩。之前已經有人問過高檔的Mic Preamps的問題,你可以看:

    Something else worth to mention,,
    Quite offenly,In U.K. The Protool system only play back and pluged into a good sound big console in mixing session(Both stereo and multi surrounding),(says like Garbage,Sting or Madonna...),In this case,a better music dynamic and sound quality could recover for certain degree,desired effcts and outboards could be reached easily.
    That is why I always treat Protool as the best tool for creation,Best audio edting sequencer,But never a realilable multitracks recorder !...personally !!

    thanks for advicing me all that.
    so if I do get an API preamp, should I record my sound module via the SPDIF port or still doing ADDA? which sound would be better?
    Personally, I feel using SSL tracking from midi module, the sound is a bit harder than the sound that recorded directly via AD8000 to PT. Do you agree with that?
    Do you think protools causes some phasing problem when you adding TDM plugin on?

    對不起,想插個嘴。各位大大,小弟對你們的話題實在插不上話,但是常上當代的討論區就是想看精彩又專業的討論,看能不能也學一點。就算看不太懂,多聽幾次有個印像也是好的。如果不麻煩的話是不 是可以用中文打?小弟回頭也會勤加練習英文的。。謝謝!

    Being frankly,the most part need to be improved is the Protool system,(or more in depth,the software language of Sound Manager on MAC or a better ability for Protool to work with ASIO ...),in another word,anything you do to improve the sound quality would only reply halfly good when playing back from Protool,therfore,just do it with anything really!!(How sad, isn't it)

    two options to leave for your choice

    #1 get your sound modules direct digitally into Protool system via SPDIF,Adat or AES.

    #2 as long as you do get youself some APIs,try leaves both gain and fader on control 24 at 0dB position(or even trim them when the noise become audiable)then adjust the gain from API to hit the Protool system,In this case,if you do line up your system correctly,hopefully,the control 24 would leave your sound along !that is all I could suggest at this monent !!

    for the preamp part, the gracedegisn got API in their micpre. have you tried that before? does is really comes with a good quality as API?
    Is Avalon 2022 another god choice accept API? as Paul Chan mentioned, the tube amp vt747 might be too slow on responding drum recording. what do you think about 2022?

    每個人對聲音的感覺都不會完全一致,所以小弟覺的其實沒有比對的必要,還是要信任自己的耳朵最重要!!SSL對我而言最大的優點是方便,表現穩定,sound 倒是其次!!
    向位的問題有很多種,(eletronicaly in A sound transmitting,Time shift between broad band width,time occuring in stereo system.....我不知道你指的是那一個part,不過如果用很嚴格的標準來看Protool,她應該各類型的phase shift都有!!
    AD 2022對我而言,等級高出747一級以上,有較好的表現和評價,應該是很正常的事!!grace design我沒用過,不過API500 series的能量來自於那神奇的Hardy 990 OPamp,如果gracedesign承襲的是這個part,那大概就壞不了!!
    我不過是提供經驗,不一定對,你就別太客氣了!!

    APIAudio沒設計過,倒是AD2022有用過。
    很多Studio都有Avalon的東西,至於聲音...
    這見仁見智,I'm not an engineer。我也配過FM Acoustic的東西,聲音棒,不過貴到嚇人。
    說到SSL,突然想到Neve 1073, 1066, 33115, 33114, 1272...等有在賣二手的,這裡面不乏身價7000美元的怪物。

    其實全世界的經濟都不景氣,有些器材並不一定像各位所想的那麼高不可攀,特別是vintage gears,價格常因市場的供需而波動,以Paul Fang所提之 old NEVE gears來說,小弟剛好都有染指過,但以2 channel來說,其實都不容易有美金7.000.元的行情,
    NEVE 1073 3 band EQ class A output(pair) arround 3.000.U.S.-3.500.U.S.dollar
    1066 1065 arround 2.500,U.S. dollar
    33114 33115 arround 2.000.U.S. dollar
    1272 mic pre (pair) 1.800.-2.400. U.S. dollar
    33609 compressor(pair) 4.500.-5.500.
    U.S.dollar
    2254E compressor(pair) 4.000.-4.500.
    2254A compressor(pair) 4.500-5.000.
    最貴且最legend的1081 4 band EQ class A/B output不論是original或NEVE/AMS 的Limited re-issue 2 channel都要價5.5k-6.5k U.S.dollars,不過要買之前最好先試過,original NEVE的switchs,pots品質不是很耐,買進二手貨後,小弟會建議re-cap channel stripe,re-wire power unit,並且在使用時注意一下溫度,有時會熱的讓人擔心!!

    上次去捷克有看見一個小rack裡面有8條API.
    有人試過嗎? 一條好像3000多美金.
    有點太貴了..對於project studio來講有點嚇人.
    Cello如何? Paul你那裡有賣cello嗎?

    你說的API rack,應是含power的API module rack,(類似dBX的900 series),我猜是200series,discrete mic gain,這產品聲音很乾淨,價位比500 series 低,屬C/P值相當優的Mic gain.
    Cello的屬性較頃向Super Hi End 高級音響(If it is the same "cello" I've known.),但品質和價格都嚇死人,比較容易在2 tracks classical recording or professional mastering studio 發現.特別是她的A/D,D/A convertors,小弟認為絕對是排前五名!!

    P.S.Cello 的老板在創立Cello 之前有另一神奇產品,"Colour Plate"EQ,個人認為任何聲音經過這東東都會比原來好聽!!真奇怪!!
