On OS X, there is a software called Disk Utility which allows you to format your hard disks in Winodw, Unix, or old Mac formats. BTW, OS X can read window drives without problems. That's why if I need to transfer very large files between OS X and Window XP, I just switch the hard disk or use FireWire hard disk.
